I can't believe michael jackson died at age 50 (age so young!). I was in China when i heard the news from a Chinese lady. Apparently her colleague had rang the office saying that she had to take a day off leave... to mourn for the loss of a one-in a million kind of person that he was...
He was the epitome of the music scene in the 80's... moonwalking and releasing great hits. My all-time favourite song was Man in the Mirror! reminds me of the time when i was a kid! :-)
For all the dancing and hits he had released, there can be no other like him. We'll miss you Michael ... thank you for the music! All good people go to heaven.. :)
Two weekends ago, i attended an ex-colleague's wedding at the Holiday Inn hotel. It was a nice affair and the bride looked so beautiful in her wedding gown with her hair done with an orchid.
I must have been quite excited about weddings because today, I found myself on a website today (only after work was over) browsing on wedding rings and dresses.
I had decided (even though a wedding for me is probably at least a year away or longer), that i would love to have an *eternity* band, most likely for a wedding ring. It's so pretty and very under-stated and downright classy! Very me... :) It needn't be small stones all around, just so long as there are small little 9 diamonds right across. I know, doesn't this just sound so petty (talking about what sort of rings i want?) but this is truly the girl in me speaking now... ;-) Only thing is that for the sake of practicality, i don't know if an eternity ring might last long. What if a diamond in the eternity band comes off one day? Wouldn't it be better to just make do with a white-gold band without any stones in it?
From that website, i was then whisked away to another site displaying the loveliest kinds of wedding dresses you could find. Most of them were very elaborate and puffy-sort (think Cinderella dresses with a little can-can on the inside).
I can just imagine what sort of wedding i'd love to have with my closest friends and family to celebrate it with me:
- Lovely flowers - i think can't decided which types. ALL flowers are equally lovely, and possibly candles. - Stunning photography that catches natural shots of the guests and the atmosphere of the moment - Wonderful classy music (Think bossanova tunes by Astrud Gilberto and the like, etc)
I'd really love for an outdoor garden wedding except it's just so hot and humid here in Malaysia that i'd probably just be melting under the heat! I guess that idea would just have to be put on the backburner for now...
This evening I spied with my little corner of my eye a huge brown roach running across my room! That maked me freak out alright. It really doesn't help one bit that my flooring is parquet (that's a kind of wood, for some of you who don't know), and that means the colour is BROWN. Great - brown roach and brown floor. The whole camouflage didn't help me at all. I raced downstairs desperately looking for my insect spray (hoho! my best friend!) but i couldn't find it. Drats, just when you need it. There were plenty of other kinds of sprays - rust spray, polishing spray, WD40, but no insect spray. Why!? I could hear Alanis Morisette singing " It's like 10,000 random can of sprays when all you need was an insect spray!" Not funny. :(
Plan B: Drive to 7-11 to buy roach kill (It's only a 3 minute drive from my house) Found that good stuff! It was actually meant more for mosquitoes rather than roaches, but that'll have to do. I saw another girl walking into 7-11 - quite hurriedly, too. Guess what she picked up off the shelves? Sanitary Pads! Haha - we all have our reasons why we go to 7-11 in the middle of the night, each of us fighting a different battle in an emergency, if you know what i mean :)
So i came back to my room, could not find that darn roach. I know he's hiding somewhere. I'm going to get him squashed good. I remain skeptic if i can get any peaceful sleep tonight, because it's not good knowing that thing is lurking around. I detest roaches because they're disgusting little creatures that carry diseases around.
Speaking of nuking roaches, i am on to another topic of the insecticide companies having to change their formula to a stronger dose to kill pests these days, reason being that insects have mutated into a much stronger species compared to years ago. It's really a concern because the last thing i want is using up half a can of my new insect spray to kill 1 bug. And if it's short of dead, it might just crawl away and survive and spawn many other critters - with a much stronger DNA. That's how viruses work and how influenza pandemics seems to strike every few decades and kill by the million.
Statistics from The Economist magazine:
1million in 1968; and perhaps 100 million in the " Spanish" flu in 1918-19.
That's a scary number if you ask me, especially with the H1N1 virus that the world is currently wrestling with. I just read that article in the magazine earlier this week.
So with that in mind, i think hunting the roach down tonight and making sure that it is no longer a threat doesn't seem so farfetched. At least i know i'd be saving my sanity....well, this time anyway.
I'm at the office now. This is going to be a short one since i'm not really supposed to be blogging here. I call it my mini-break, hehe.
I was downloading various pictures of plants/flowers of which essential oils came from for this write-up of mine. My company is attending a beauty exhibition or show this coming July for about 4-5 days. The idea is, we want to share the benefits of essential oils to people around us. This is a picture of a chamomile plant. It's very nature is calming and soothing. I find it very pretty in a simple sort of way.
